We created a closed BTES field for studio flats by drilling 50 bore holes to a depth of 150 metres. This lets us keep the studio flats warm and cool them in summer.

De uitdaging
Een grootschalig project met meer dan 220 high-end units, elk voorzien van actieve koeling. De site stelde echter heel wat technische uitdagingen:
- beperkte ruimte voor de 175 boringen tot 140 meter diepte,
- een gebouwhoogte die de capaciteit van geothermie zwaar op de proef stelt.
De combinatie van omvang, hoogte en koelbehoefte maakte het niet evident om voldoende vermogen uit geothermie alleen te halen.
De oplossing
Om de capaciteit te garanderen, werd gekozen voor een hybride aanpak. Er wordt geboord onder het gebouw zelf, een complexe maar doordachte ingreep die het maximale uit het beschikbare terrein haalt. Toch volstond dat niet om het hele vermogen te dekken. Daarom worden extra lucht-waterwarmtepompen ingezet als ondersteuning.
Omdat de units actieve koeling vereisen, werken alle warmtepompen samen over het volledige BEO-veld. Zo wordt de koelbelasting efficiënt gespreid. De actieve koeling zorgt tegelijk voor regeneratie van het veld in de zomer, maar om overbelasting te vermijden wordt het BEO-veld continu gemonitord en bijgestuurd.
